Lead Teacher Job Description

The role as a Lead Dance Instructor with The Gift of Dance is to organize & teach a entire dance class from start to finish. This includes following lesson plans and creating age appropriate choreography & combinations for students. Other responsibilities include taking attendance, giving clear directions, managing and monitoring students at all times, and communicating with parents and onsite staff.

A Lead Dance Instructor should be able to collaborate effectively with Teacher Assistants, other Lead Dance Instructors, The Gift of Dance staff, and parents to create a positive and supportive environment for the class.

Preferred candidates would have substantial dance training and prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities:

• Reports to and communicates effectively with the Assistant Director. 
• Creates and facilitates organization of the class structure 
• Is prepared for classes with lesson plans and materials 
• Teaches and reviews activities, movement, and class progressions.
• Be well-organized, adaptable, and capable of managing various aspects of class.
• Use effective communication to convey instructions, provide feedback, and build relationships with dancers, parents, and The Gift of Dance staff.
• Prioritize safety by establishing class rules and procedures.
• Remain aware of the physical condition and welfare of students at all times.

• Exhibit enthusiasm and sincere interest in teaching dance and working with students to develop their movement vocabulary while maintaining focus on character development.
• Be able to teach and develop dancers effectively while inspiring and motivating the class.
• Promote an appreciation for dance, creativity, expression, and performance. 
• Support the value of a dance education. 
• Work effectively with the students, promoting a safe and positive learning environment. 
• Demonstrate honesty, integrity, leadership, and professionalism.
• Present a professional image and provide a positive role model in terms of personal habits, language, and conduct.
